I picked "Maybe" because I'm mostly self taught but think I really missed out on having intense study of different media, different styles. I'm stuck with all these weakness and missing skills that are so much harder to overcome once you're away from school. So, I would never pass up a chance at school or apprenticeship under another artist.

Maybe - because some people can teach themselves, other need a little guidance. In any case, art school FORCES you to practice - always helpful. It can also help you get a professional job easier than simply self-taught I think.

Because I think the school can help you to find a methodic way to organize and make a project, of course in the school are going to teach you many stuff in a very academical way, but the technical things u can learn are very helpful, in the school can give you many tips, or can help u to find your own skills, not always, that's for sure, but can help u to knowledge about technicques, but u have to practice by ur own, just take the own ininiciative to learn more, and to be the best in what u wanna do. Even davichi has to studied at the school, but just for learneed techniques...

I understand completely. Thanks for posting, I am trying to get a feel on how the art community views art school, as so many artists seem to feel that overall it is a bit of a waste of money. Not of time, but the money is oh so much!

That's the insight that I have never heard. Most of the time it's more about how the info and supplies are out there and your imagination being the only limit. Thanks for the insight!

I listed "maybe" because it REALLY depends on what you want to do.

Overall, I don't think its necessary but at the same time getting an education, even if its a useless piece of paper, is far more valuable than not getting it.

Plus having some sort of formal training gives you the tools to critically evaulate yourself & look at things that you may have never considered w/o it.

I picked "Maybe" as education helps build and strengthen your existing talent plus value adds with other skills like business, management and people skills, etc.

Plus at times organisations do look at your qualifications to justify increasing your pay or promoting you. Without it you may need to wait longer.

I think all people have a certain level of artistic ability, say 1-100. No matter where you are on that scale, going to art school has a high probability of changing the way you look at things and approach art.
